A new paper published in Science Advances reveals that Atlantification -the increasing influence of Atlantic water in the Arctic- continues to reshape the Arctic Ocean.
The study presents new observational evidence that this process is intensifying in the eastern Eurasian Basin and extending beyond the Lomonosov Ridge into the Makarov Basin, with clear implications for the ecological environment.
Atlantification is indeed altering the region's physical and ecological conditions. One of its key impacts is sea ice loss which accelerates regional warming and influence local ecological systems.
