CRiceS and PolarRES join forces at EGU
22 May 2023

CRiceS and PolarRES organized a joint session at European Geosciences Union (EGU) at the end of April 2023 in Vienna. As members of the same EU Polar Cluster (a network of collaborative polar projects) task group, they regularly do activities together.

Both projects study interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, snow and sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic. They both aim to deepen our comprehension of polar processes and to enhance the ability of society to respond to climate change.

By sharing our own expertise, breakthroughs and results we can improve our understanding of the relationship between sea ice and the global climate, leading to more precise predictions about the future climate of the polar regions.

The EGU session, hosted by Jennie Thomas (CRiceS) and Priscilla Mooney (PolarRES), highlighted recent advances in knowledge of atmosphere-ocean-sea ice interactions and new tools that will increase confidence in projections of future climate change. New knowledge on the interactions between the atmosphere, ocean and sea-ice can improve our ability to understand recent changes, and anticipate future changes in the Arctic and Antarctic climate systems. In particular, it will improve our ability to represent them in our modelling systems and increase confidence in projections of future climate change in the polar regions.

We are very happy about this collaboration and we are looking forward to meeting the team again soon!
