Putting the pieces together: observations of the melting season in the High Arctic
9 October 2023

Observations are crucial to improve scientific models that can help us understand the changes in the environment. But observations can be hard to do in out-of-reach-areas with difficult weather and ice conditions. Associate professor Paul Zieger and PhD-student Julia Asplund, both at the Department of Environmental Science, Stockholm University, spent some exciting weeks onboard the Swedish research icebreaker Oden in the central Arctic Ocean in May and June 2023 to study in detail when the sea-ice surface starts to melt in spring.

Zieger and Asplund are both part of the CRiceS research project.
